New video celebrates the magic of libraries

Twenty two public library authorities in the North West region, including Blackpool Library Service, have cooperated for many years to promote reading in new ways, through a partnership called Time to Read.  This partnership has commissioned award-winning film makers Emily& Anne to create a short film which celebrates the magic of public libraries and the imaginative power of reading. This film is being released in time for National Libraries Day on February 8.

The film is viewable now on the video platforms Vimeo  and Youtube:

The film, which features one person’s reading journey to the library, also includes at least ten challenging book references for viewers to spot. Library staff want people to view the video several times, to spot the references and tell us what they have found via Twitter.NLD book open

On Saturday 8 February, library users new and old are being encouraged to go along to their local library and find out about the great services on offer – from book loans, and homework clubs to advice on starting a business and how to get online. Even if people can’t make it to their library, they can still get access to a range of services through library websites, including borrowing ebooks.

Hundreds of events across the country will take place to celebrate National Libraries Day on Saturday 8 February. Blackpool Library Service is running two workshops with artist Sean Payne at Palatine and Central Library on Saturday.  You can read altblackpool’s preview, and find out how to book your place here: The Greatest Story Never Told!

So if you’re out and about this weekend, why not pay a visit to your local library.  There’s much more going on that you might think!
