Seaside special – postcards from the edge

There is an exciting opportunity for five new writers to be published in a short story collection alongside award winning writers Andrew Michael HurleyCarys BrayPaul KingsnorthPeter Kalu and Kirsty Logan.  Bluemoose Books are looking for stories from new writers and new voices for an anthology of short fiction set on the North West Coast edited by the award winning writer Jenn Ashworth.

‘From the bright lights of Blackpool to the eerie calm of Morecambe bay, from the port of Whitehaven down to the dunes of Formby, we want your stories. We’re interested in the untold tales: the seasonal workers, the overlooked natural world, the off-peak and under-written. We’re interested in tales from the edge: edge of the country, edge of society, and perhaps even the edge of a life.’

Kevin Duffy, founder of independent publisher Bluemoose Books, recently appeared at Wordpool, Blackpool’s Arts and Libraries Festival of Words as part of a panel event sharing insights and advice about how to get published. Authors Andrew Michael Hurley and Carys Bray have both also delivered author talks at previous Wordpool festivals.

Your story must be previously unpublished, set on the North West coast of England, and no longer than 6000 words. The writer doesn’t have to be born, live or work in the area to write about it and the organisers are looking for surprising perspectives and diverse voices.

For the purposes of this collection, ‘new writer’ means you haven’t previously published a book-length work of fiction, poetry or creative non – fiction before.  For further information contact Kevin Duffy ([email protected] / @ofmooseandmen / 01422 842731).

To submit you need to send your work as a word document email attachment to [email protected] including your name and contact details, and a short biography.  The deadline for entries is 15 Septembersubmissions after this date will not be read.
